In Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, a live grenade found on the rooftop of a government building caused considerable alarm among residents. The incident took place on July 18 when children playing on the terrace of a government quarter discovered the grenade and raised an alert.
The grenade's discovery immediately sparked panic within the local community. The area around the building, which is close to Raja Sukhdev District Hospital, was quickly cordoned off by police to ensure the safety of residents and hospital staff. This action was taken due to fears that the grenade might be part of a potential terrorist attack.
Authorities responded swiftly to the situation. Bomb disposal squads were called to the scene and successfully defused the grenade. The police are investigating the incident, suspecting that the grenade was thrown by someone who then fled the scene before it could explode.
One local resident, Gulfam, recounted the tense moments. His children first noticed something unusual on the terrace, which led him to investigate. Initially, he thought the object might be related to recent work by the electricity department.
However, upon further inspection, it was clear that the item was suspicious. After consulting with the security guard, who confirmed it was indeed a bomb, the police were notified immediately.
A deputy superintendent of police, along with a team, arrived at the scene within half an hour and safely removed the grenade. The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the security agencies promptly.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the importance of community awareness and quick action in preventing potential threats.
