The Bombay High Court has directed the Patanjali Ayurved company to deposit Rs 50 lakh due to an alleged breach of the court's interim order. The court had previously restricted Patanjali Ayurved from selling its camphor products in response to a trademark infringement case filed by another company, Mangalam Organics Ltd.

In August 2023, the High Court issued an interim order against Patanjali Ayurved, restraining the company from selling its camphor products following trademark infringement allegations by Mangalam Organics Ltd.

On July 8, Justice RI Chagla, a single bench, noted that Patanjali admitted breaching the earlier injunction against the sale of the contested camphor products in an affidavit submitted in June.

"Such persistent breach of the injunction order dated 30th August 2023 by defendant no. 1 (Patanjali) cannot be tolerated by this court," Justice Chagla said in the order, a copy of which was made available on Wednesday.

The court suggested that Patanjali should deposit Rs 50 lakh before any decision is made regarding the contempt of the injunction order.

The case has been scheduled for further review on July 19.

In August 2023, Patanjali was temporarily prohibited by the high court from selling or advertising their camphor products.

Mangalam Organics accused Patanjali Ayurved of infringing on their copyright for camphor products. They later claimed that Patanjali had violated the temporary order by continuing to sell the camphor products.

In June 2024, the high court took into account an affidavit from Patanjali's director, Rajneesh Mishra, in which he apologized unconditionally and promised to comply with the court's orders.

In the affidavit, Mishra admitted that since the injunction order was issued, the total supply of the contested camphor product had amounted to Rs 49,57,861.
