People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India has launched ‘Awaaz’, an AI-powered child-like robot goat designed to promote veganism and encourage people to adopt animal-free food choices.

The realistic-looking robotic goat interacts with people in both Hindi and English, asking questions aimed at challenging attitudes towards animal slaughter and meat consumption.

In a promotional video released by the organisation, Awaaz is seen asking children and passersby: “Do you consider me a friend or food?”

The robot goat is expected to visit college campuses, public spaces and city centres across the country as part of PETA India’s outreach campaign encouraging slaughter-free lifestyles and vegan eating habits.

In the video, Awaaz speaks about the value of animal life and urges people to rethink their dietary choices.

“Some people think we are food, or that our lives can be taken. But my life means something special to me, just like yours is valuable to you,” the robot says.

PETA India said the initiative is intended to build empathy towards animals while encouraging the public to choose alternatives such as jackfruit, tofu,
mushrooms and mock meat products instead of animal-based food.

The organisation added that goats, like humans, experience pain and fear and do not want to be killed.

“Like humans, goats feel pain and fear, and they don’t want to be killed,” PETA said in a statement announcing the campaign.

PETA India also linked veganism to broader environmental and health concerns, claiming that each person who adopts a vegan lifestyle can spare nearly 200 animals annually.

The organisation further said plant-based diets may help reduce risks associated with heart disease, diabetes and certain forms of cancer.

Highlighting environmental concerns, PETA stated that livestock farming contributes significantly to water pollution, land degradation and excessive water use.

It also referred to a United Nations report that advocates a global shift towards plant-based diets to combat the worsening climate crisis.
