Phillaur Open to host PGTI NexGen event from March 25.

The third event of the 2025 Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) NexGen season is set to take place at the Ranjitgarh Golf Club in Phillaur from 25 to 27 March. A Pro-Am event will be held on 23 March, providing an opportunity for amateurs to play alongside professionals and gain valuable experience.

This tournament marks the return of professional golf to Phillaur after a lengthy gap of 14 years. The competition will unfold over three rounds, totalling 54 holes, with a cut applied after the first two rounds, reducing the field to the top 36 players and ties for the final round.

The tournament boasts a prize purse of Rs 20 lakh, attracting a field of 90 professional golfers. Among them are local talents Amit Kumar and Swatanter Kumar, both of whom hail from Phillaur, adding a touch of home-grown pride to the event.

The previous two events of the PGTI NexGen season were held in Gurugram and Kapurthala, with Rajesh Kumar Gautam from Lucknow and Brijesh Kumar from Panchkula securing victories.

These wins have placed them jointly at the top of the 2025 PGTI NexGen Order of Merit. The overall winner of this season's Order of Merit will earn an exemption on the main PGTI tour for the 2026 season, raising the stakes for every participant.

Amandeep Johl, CEO of PGTI, expressed his enthusiasm for the event's return to Phillaur, recognising the region as an important golfing centre in Punjab. He extended his gratitude to R S Gill and the Ranjitgarh Golf Club for their support in reviving professional golf in the area.

Johl noted the significant contribution of Punjab to Indian golf, having produced notable male and female golfers, both professionals and amateurs. He emphasised that the return of PGTI to Punjab would help maintain the pipeline of golfing talent from the state.

Reflecting on the competitive spirit displayed in the first two PGTI NexGen events, Johl expressed his optimism for another thrilling tournament in Phillaur. With the competition for the NexGen Order of Merit intensifying, the event is expected to deliver high-quality golf and showcase emerging talent.
