The Union government has unveiled the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana, an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming agricultural conditions across 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and limited access to credit.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2025, announced that the scheme will be implemented in partnership with state governments.
"It aims to foster rural prosperity through a convergence of existing agricultural schemes and specialised measures," Sitharaman mentioned.
“Motivated by the success of the Aspirational Districts Programme, our government will undertake a Prime Minister Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana in partnership with states. Through the convergence of existing schemes and specialised measures, the programme will cover 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and below-average credit parameters,” said Sitharaman.

The scheme will address five critical areas: enhancing agricultural productivity through improved farming techniques, promoting crop diversification and sustainable practices, developing post-harvest storage facilities at panchayat and block levels, improving irrigation facilities, and facilitating farmers’ access to credit for better farming practices.
The programme is expected to benefit approximately 1.7 crore farmers, improving their incomes and fostering agricultural sustainability.
Additionally, Sitharaman announced the launch of the Rural Prosperity and Resilience Programme, designed to tackle underemployment in agriculture by focusing on skilling, investment, and technological advancements.
This initiative will also be implemented in collaboration with state governments.
“Rural Prosperity and Resilience Programme will be launched in partnership with the states. This will address underemployment in agriculture through skilling, investment, technology, and invigorating the rural economy,” she said.
The programme's primary objective is to create sufficient employment opportunities in rural areas, making migration to urban centres a choice rather than a necessity.
It is expected to benefit rural women, young farmers, marginal and small farmers, rural youth, and landless families.
These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, aiming to bolster rural development, enhance agricultural sustainability, and provide better livelihoods for farmers.
