Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently flagged-off a new metro route & a new metro train, in Gujarat. One of the things worth noting in this event is that the Metro train operator was a lady who belongs to the Adivasi tribe and hails from a very small town.
Till now Metro was operational on few routes in Ahmedabad. Recently, PM Modi was in Gujarat. He flagged-off the Metro train on a new route that connects Ahmedabad with Gandhinagar’s GIFT city.
However, it is important to note that women empowerment has reached the next stage in our country because an Adivasi lady was sitting in the driver's cabin. She managed the entire journey of the train which was not only flagged off by the PM, but the PM also travelled on this journey sitting in the Metro train.
Kashti Chaudhary is a young lady who works with Gujarat’s Metro service. Kashti who belongs to the Adivasi tribe hails from the Vyara town of Gujarat’s Tapi district.
Her father Navinbhai Chaudhary works as a Deputy Engineer with GSECL. He is currently posted at Sardar Sarovar Nigam Ltd, Kevadiya. Her mother Nalinaben Chaudhary serves as a teacher at a school in Vyara.
Kashti, who had always dreamt to become an engineer, had taken admission in Diploma Electrical Engineering. Later she took the diploma-to-degree route and completed her Engineering degree with distinction.
Kashti applied for the post of train operator from a paper advertisement and later passed through three difficult examinations and tests to get finally selected.
She has been working since two years now, as a Metro train operator. Her husband Keyur Chaudhary works with The Airport Authority at Surat.
It was one of the happiest moments of life for Kashti, when dignitaries including PM Modi, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and many others travelled on a train managed by her.
The news of Kashti’s achievement has made the citizens of Tapi district extremely joyful. The Adivasi community has also come forward and provided there felicitation for Kshati.
According to Kashti’s father Navinbhai, “right from childhood Kashti has been very bold, powerful and hardworking. She has immense confidence. Kashti is our only child and we are indeed proud of her.”
Adivasis are tribal people usually living in small villages and forest areas. For a girl to rise from this background, where majority people are unschooled and live on a modest income, is indeed a great achievement.
It indeed required a lot of intelligence and guts to rise for Kashti. Government’s policies and support system has also played a vital role in the rise of Kashti and her family.
