Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Srinagar today for a two-day visit, marking his first trip to Jammu and Kashmir since the beginning his third term in office.
His visit coincides with the June 21 International Day of Yoga, when he will lead the 10th edition of the event.
During his stay, PM Modi will participate in an event, Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K, at the Sheri-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.
He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects valued at over ₹1,500 crore.
Additionally, he plans to launch the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project, which estimated to cost ₹1,800 crore.
According to a Press Information bureau handout, on June 21, at around 6.30 AM, the prime minister will participate in the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC in Srinagar.
PM Modi will also address a gathering on the occasion and take part in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session thereafter.
Stringent security measures have been implemented ahead of the Prime Minister's visit, with multi-layered security arrangements in place across Srinagar City.
More than 7,000 participants are expected to join him in yoga sessions on Friday morning at the picturesque Dal Lake.
"The participants have been trained over the past three days in the Yoga 'Asanas' to be performed by the prime minister," officials confirmed.
Srinagar also has been designated a Temporary Red Zone for drone operations, as per the Drone Rules, 2021, to ensure heightened security during the visit.
Preparations for the event include sanitisation operations at SKICC, thorough background checks of attendees, and the closure of roads leading to the venue.
Ahead of the main celebration, various yoga events have been organised throughout the city and the Valley, including one near the iconic clock tower at Lal Chowk and at Polo Ground, to commemorate the 10th International Day of Yoga.
