As the podcast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving Lex Fridman next level popularity on account of its varied content, it is his effort towards chanting the ‘Gayatri Mantra’ that is winning many hearts.
The PM himself lauded the effort of the influencer when the latter sought validation of his pronunciation.
The duo held discussions over a range of topics, including the PM’s childhood, the role of RSS in his life, the Gujarat riots, geopolitics, artificial intelligence and education.
Towards the end of the podcast, Fridman, apparently in honour of the conversation, and to touch upon spirituality, made an attempt at chanting the ‘Gayatri Mantra.’
He said he was trying to do the chants while fasting and sought PM Modi’s insights on the significance of this mantra. Pertinently, Fridman observed a two-day fast in preparation for the podcast.
“In this moment I was wondering if you could guide me perhaps through a Hindu prayer or meditation for a few moment. I am trying to learn the Gayatri Mantra. You could tell me about the importance of this mantra in your life. Should I try ?” Fridman asked.
PM Modi replied in the affirmative to which Fridman chanted the mantra. Acknowledging the fact that he was an American and yet made a good effort to chant the mantra in Sanskrit, the PM hailed Fridman.

“You did great,” Modi said in a response loaded with appreciation. He later explained that the mantra is dedicated to radiant power of the Sun and is considered a powerful tool for spiritual enlightenment.
The PM further explained that many mantras in Hindu philosophy are deeply intertwined in some intricate and interesting ways with science and nature which is why there is a deep connection between science and spirituality. The PM further said the chanting of mantras on a daily basis brings profound and lasting benefits.
