Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth around ₹2,970 crore in Daman, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, healthcare, connectivity and tourism in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
The projects inaugurated include the new terminal building of NAMO Airport and NAMO Hospital, together worth around ₹1,340 crore. The airport terminal is expected to improve regional air connectivity and boost economic activity, while the hospital has been designed to cater to nearly 1,500 outpatients daily, enhancing healthcare access in the region.
Modi also laid the foundation stone for projects worth around ₹1,630 crore, including the Iconic Bridge, Daman Convention Centre and a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the projects span healthcare, civil aviation, tourism, connectivity and public welfare sectors and are expected to accelerate the Union Territory’s development.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for projects worth around ₹885 crore in Lakshadweep, including port facilities and multipurpose jetties at Kalpeni and Kadmat islands. The projects are expected to improve maritime connectivity, facilitate cargo and passenger movement, support local livelihoods and promote tourism.
PM reviews defence manufacturing at L&T facility
Earlier in the day, Modi visited Larsen & Toubro’s Hazira facility in Surat, Gujarat, where he reviewed industrial operations and infrastructure projects at the company’s AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex.
During the visit, company officials briefed the Prime Minister on defence equipment manufactured at the facility, including the indigenously developed ‘Zorawar’ light tank. Developed jointly by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and L&T Defence, the 25-tonne air-transportable tank is designed for rapid deployment in high-altitude areas, particularly along the frontier with China.
The Prime Minister’s Gujarat visit also includes the inauguration of projects worth over ₹18,000 crore across the road, power and industrial sectors in Surat, including a 200-bed ESIC Hospital.
