Earlier today at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the national 'Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan', an assembly designed to unite women from a vast array of disciplines. Indeed, it was a confluence of eminent personalities from the realms of scientific endeavor, academia, and entrepreneurial endeavor as well as media and other social circles that have helped define the contours of this nation.
Indeed, today's event is part and parcel of the government's 'Viksit Bharat 2047', wherein women-centric development is not an afterthought but is seen as a critical component of its overall growth trajectory.
The crux of today's deliberations centered around ensuring that tokenism be done away with, and instead, women find a legitimate place in the decision-making bodies of this nation right from the village Panchayats up to Parliament itself. The thrust seemed to be more on implementing the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam'.
It needs to be recalled that while the legislation was passed last September to ensure a one-third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and other state assemblies, now the emphasis is on making this a reality on the ground. With a special Parliament session scheduled for April 16 to deliberate on the nationwide rollout of these reservations, the Sammelan marks a deliberate shift towards a more inclusive style of governance that reflects the true demographics of the country.
