Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reviewed the situation in several states following natural disasters triggered by Cyclone Remal.
In a post on X, Modi expressed concern for the affected regions, stating, "Unfortunately, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and West Bengal have witnessed natural disasters in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal. My thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected."
The Prime Minister assured that the central government is providing all possible support and is continuously monitoring the situation. "Officials are working on the ground to assist those affected," he added.
Home Minister Amit Shah, who briefed Modi about the situation, stated that the central government is committed to aiding the disaster-stricken states. Modi is currently in Kanyakumari on a spiritual retreat.
The flood situation in Assam remained critical on Friday, with over two lakh people affected across nine districts due to relentless rainfall following Cyclone Remal, officials reported.
Since May 28, six people have lost their lives due to floods, rain, and storms in the state.
The districts severely impacted include Nagaon, Karimganj, West Karbi Anglong, Cachar, Hojai, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao.
Manipur is also reeling under severe floods in the wake of Cyclone Remal, with over 1.88 lakh people affected and more than 24,000 houses damaged, a state minister reported on Thursday.
The deluge has led to the evacuation of 18,103 people and necessitated the establishment of 56 relief camps, according to Awangbou Newmai, the Minister for Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management.
