India AI Impact Summit 2026: PM Modi unveils 'MANAV' vision

“To ensure that humans don't become a data point or raw material, we have to democratise AI. It must become a tool for inclusion and empowerment, particularly for the Global South. Any AI model that succeeds in India can be deployed anywhere in the world," he stated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for democratisation of Artificial Intelligence, as he addressed global and tech leaders on the fourth day of the India AI Impact Summit 2026. He then unveiled India’s 'MANAV Vision' for AI, which encompasses moral and ethical systems, accountable governance and national sovereignty.

“To ensure that humans don't become a data point or raw material, we have to democratise AI. It must become a tool for inclusion and empowerment, particularly for the Global South. Any AI model that succeeds in India can be deployed anywhere in the world," he stated.

“Deepfakes and fabricated content bring instability to open societies. Some people fear AI, some see the future in it. India sees the future in AI,” the Prime Minister stated.

“We believe AI can benefit only when it can be shared; we should make a resolve to develop AI as a global common good. We have to give an open sky to AI, but at the same time we have to keep the reins in our hands,” he said.

He then pitched authenticity labels for AI content on the lines of nutrition labels on food packets.

"In the course of human history, there have been certain turning points that shaped entire centuries. These turning points set the direction of civilisation and transform the pace of development. Artificial intelligence is one such transformation in history," he said.

World leaders attending the summit include French President Emmanuel Macron, Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Disanayaka, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Croatia Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic, Seychelles Vice President Sebastien Pillay, Estonia President Alar Karis and Finland Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
