Speaking to a meeting of the NDA Parliamentary Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the government reacted promptly as soon as the NEET leakage was reported. Calling it a “ghor paap” (great sin), he said that the accused had already been apprehended, with 13 of them presently under arrest. In his view, the guilty should face the most stringent punishment so that such breaches in the future can be deterred from happening.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated that the government acted swiftly by sending the 13 accused to jail. To protect the interests of aspirants, the government conducted a re-examination, which was completed with results declared on schedule. Rijiju stressed that these urgent actions demonstrate the determination of the government to ensure that such things do not happen again in future and regain the trust in the examination process.
The political analysis occurs in the backdrop of hearing in the Supreme Court on a series of cases on the NEET-UG paper leakage where the litigants have asked for NTA’s dissolution along with an investigation by the CBI. Initially, the case of NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled on May 12 because of the issue related to the security of the examination. The row erupted after the NTA published its provisional answer key on May 6, prompting students and coaching centres to flag an alleged "guess paper" that closely matched the actual exam. Investigators subsequently alleged that a handwritten question bank had circulated prior to the test, particularly in Rajasthan, where local police claimed over 400 leaked questions were identified, with 135 directly matching the final paper.
Following the cancellation, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan ordered a re-examination, which was held on June 21. The NTA subsequently declared the results, confirming that 11.21 lakh candidates qualified for undergraduate medical, dental, AYUSH, and allied courses across India. Nevertheless, revaluation results have again raised controversy since some of the aspirants belonging to the states of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh complained about score discrepancy along with mismatch in OMR sheets. The NTA has denied any of such allegations on the grounds that their marking system is highly safe, and there should not be any rumour regarding fake or artificial OMR sheets.
