India emerges as hub for Suzuki’s electric car exports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described the day as a “special” one in India’s journey towards self-reliance and becoming a hub for green mobility.

Modi will inaugurate two major projects at the Suzuki Motor plant in Hansalpur, Ahmedabad — the localised production of hybrid battery electrodes and the global launch of Suzuki’s first strategic Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e-VITARA.

“At the programme in Hansalpur, e-VITARA will be flagged off. This Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) is made in India and will be exported to over a hundred nations. In a big boost to our battery ecosystem, production of hybrid battery electrodes will also commence at a plant in Gujarat,” Modi said in a post on X.

The e-VITARA will be manufactured in India and exported to more than 100 countries, including advanced markets such as Europe and Japan. With this development, India will become Suzuki’s global manufacturing hub for electric vehicles, marking a significant success for the government’s Make in India initiative.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the start of localised production of hybrid battery electrodes at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant in Gujarat. The facility is a joint venture of Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki, and represents the next phase in strengthening India’s battery ecosystem.

Officials said the move will ensure that more than 80 per cent of the battery value is manufactured within India, boosting domestic capability and advancing clean energy innovation.

Together, the initiatives are seen as a major step in advancing the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision while reinforcing India’s position as a global player in the green mobility sector.
