Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted the people of Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur on their Statehood Day, and highlighted the states’ contribution to India’s growth trajectory through their people’s passion for sports, culture, and nature.
In a post on X, the prime minister praised the states of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura separately for blending tradition and modernity and expressed his wishes for their continued development.
“Warm greetings to the people of Tripura on their Statehood Day. Tripura’s journey is marked by a remarkable blend of tradition and modernity,” he wrote, adding, “The state has witnessed pioneering transformations in diverse fields, and its people are adding momentum to India’s growth trajectory. I pray that Tripura prospers significantly in the coming times”.
Calling Tripura’s passion towards sports, culture and nature “noteworthy”, he wrote further: “May the state continue to move forward on the path of development in the times to come”.
The Prime Minister also wrote separate letters to the Chief Ministers of Tripura and Meghalaya, in which he underscored his government’s continued focus on development and inclusive growth in the northeast.
To the people of Meghalaya on the state’s 54th Statehood Day, PM Modi wrote a post that highlighted the vibrant culture and picturesque landscape of the state.
“I convey my heartfelt greetings to the people of Meghalaya on their Statehood Day. The people of Meghalaya have made strong contributions to the development of our nation. The state’s cultural vibrancy and scenic beauty are widely admired. May Meghalaya continue to scale new heights of development in the future,” he wrote.
The North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971, reorganised the states in the strategic northeastern region of the country. Under this Act, Manipur and Tripura were granted statehood on January 21, 1972; prior to which they were both union territories, whereas the state of Meghalaya was carved out from Assam due to its distinct terrain from the rest of Assam.
In a separate post on X, the Prime Minister also acknowledged the contribution of Manipuri people to India’s progress.
Expressing optimism for the future of the state, he wrote on X: “On the occasion of Manipur Statehood Day, I extend my warm greetings to my sisters and brothers of the state. People from Manipur are enriching the progress of India.”
“This state’s passion towards sports, culture and nature is noteworthy. May the state continue to move forward on the path of development in the times to come,” the post said.

Strife-torn Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February last year. At least 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in the ethnic violence between Imphal Valley-based Meiteis and hills-based Kuki-Zo groups in Manipur since May 2023.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings to the people of Manipur and Tripura, calling the states their pride.
In a post on X, Shah wrote, “Statehood Day greetings to our sisters and brothers of Manipur. Blessed with a vibrant culture and talented people, Manipur has always been our pride. May the state reach new heights in the times to come.”
Shah also extended greetings to the people of Tripura, lauding the state’s development and calling it a proud contributor to India’s growth.
Shah wrote, “Greetings to our sisters and brothers of Tripura on Statehood Day. Touching new heights in development, Tripura has today established itself as a proud contributor to India’s growth.”
President Droupadi Murmu greeted the people of Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur on their Statehood Day as well, and lauded their enterprising strength and talent for the remarkable contributions made to the nation’s progress.
“Warm greetings to the people of Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur on their Statehood Day. These states are blessed with rich cultural legacy, vibrant traditions and extraordinary natural beauty,” Murmu said in a post on X.
Their enterprising and talented people have made remarkable contributions to the nation’s progress, she said, and added that she wishes the residents a future filled with peace and prosperity.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha thanked Prime Minister Modi for his Statehood Day greetings and his reaffirmation of the Centre’s commitment to inclusive development, improved connectivity, peace, and prosperity in the Northeast.
Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, also conveyed warm wishes on the occasion, recalling in a post on X the “vision, values and indomitable spirit” of those who shaped the state.
“On the 54th Statehood Day of Meghalaya, I extend my warm greetings to the people of our beautiful State. May this occasion remind us of the vision, values, and indomitable spirit of our forefathers who shaped our State, and inspire us to continue working together in harmony for lasting peace and progress. Happy Meghalaya Day!” the Chief Minister wrote in the post and attached a graphic showcasing the state’s vibrant culture.

We are deeply grateful for your continued guidance and the steadfast support of the Government of India and Central Ministries in accelerating Meghalaya's growth and development. Sangma ji, whose ideals continue to inspire our journey forward,” Sangma wrote in a post on X.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla highlighted the prime minister’s message on the government’s focus on development, inclusive growth, and better opportunities for the people of Manipur, while recognising the state’s rich heritage and resilience.
In a post on X, Bhalla wrote, “On the occasion of Manipur's Statehood Day, Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has conveyed his warm greetings to the people of Manipur. In his message, the Prime Minister underscored the GoI’s continued focus on development, inclusive growth, and improved opportunities for the people of Manipur, while honouring the State’s rich heritage and resilience.”
