Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other leaders paid heartfelt tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his 107th birth anniversary, highlighting his invaluable contribution to India's development and his lasting legacy.
Modi, in his tribute, praised Deendayal Upadhyaya’s dedication and his concept of "Antyodaya," which emphasises the upliftment of the poorest and most marginalised in society. The Prime Minister expressed that this vision continues to guide the country's development efforts, especially in the context of building a self-reliant India.
In a post on X, Modi honoured the great nationalist thinker and said, "Tributes to the great nationalist thinker Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary. His concept of Antyodaya will play an invaluable role in achieving the resolution of a developed India. His dedication and service to the country will remain unforgettable."
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also took part in commemorating the birth anniversary of the leader by participating in the "Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024" at a park near Pandit Deendayal Antyodaya Bhawan. He took to X to express his admiration for Upadhyaya, noting, "His vision of ‘Ekatma Manav Vad’ & ‘Antyodaya’ continues to guide us towards a society where every individual is empowered."
BJP National President JP Nadda joined the tributes, paying floral respects to Deendayal Upadhyaya at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. Nadda emphasised how the leader’s ideals still shape the party’s vision for governance.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah remembered Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya as a great thinker and a firm proponent of "integral humanism." Shah highlighted Upadhyaya’s commitment to purity in politics and his vision of cultural nationalism, which Modi has embraced in reaching out to the last person in society through government initiatives.
Shah’s message on X emphasised how Upadhyaya’s ideas laid the foundation for India's progress, stating that Modi has carried forward his legacy by ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach the most vulnerable sections of society.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath marked the occasion by unveiling a statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and paying floral tributes. At the unveiling ceremony, Adityanath praised the leader for his visionary approach to nation-building.
He reminded the people of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s constant empathy for the poor, farmers, and women, and his advocacy for self-dependency. The Chief Minister highlighted how these values have continued to influence India’s development trajectory, particularly in the efforts to provide essential resources to people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adityanath's words during the ceremony reflected his admiration for Upadhyaya’s enduring impact on India. "On the birth occasion of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, I want you all to remember the vision and hard work that he put into building the country 70 years ago," he said.
The CM emphasised that the progress India has made, particularly in terms of supporting the most disadvantaged sections of society, is a testament to Upadhyaya’s vision.
Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was a leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a central figure in shaping India’s political thought. His philosophy of Antyodaya, which focuses on the welfare of the last person in the line of development, has been a guiding force for the nation’s policies aimed at inclusive growth.
