Bhubaneswar hosts 59th DGP, IGP Conference 2024.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the opening day of the DGP/IGP Conference in Bhubaneswar with detailed discussions on various aspects of policing and national security.

The conference, spanning three days from November 29 to December 1, aims to address key security challenges and devise strategies for enhanced law enforcement.

The Prime Minister shared insights about the conference on social media, describing the day as “productive,” with deliberations covering a range of issues related to policing and internal security.

This year’s event includes themes like counterterrorism, left-wing extremism (LWE), coastal security, cybercrime, and economic security.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, senior police officials will engage in dialogue to address existing and emerging security threats.

The agenda includes reviewing the progress of implementing new criminal laws and exploring best practices in law enforcement. Discussions will also focus on operational and infrastructural challenges faced by the police forces across the nation.

The conference features interactive sessions allowing officials to present their perspectives on critical security issues directly to the Prime Minister.

Unique elements such as yoga sessions, break-out meetings, and thematic dining tables have been incorporated this year to make the conference more dynamic and engaging.

Since taking office in 2014, the Prime Minister has shown a keen interest in this annual event and has encouraged it to be held in various parts of the country.

Locations for previous conferences include Guwahati, Hyderabad, the Rann of Kachchh, Pune, and Jaipur, among others. This year, Bhubaneswar has been chosen to host the 59th edition, continuing the tradition of decentralising the event.

Participants include the Union Home Minister, National Security Adviser, Ministers of State for Home Affairs, state DGPs, and chiefs of central police organisations.

The event provides a platform for sharing ideas, strategies, and innovative approaches to tackle national security challenges effectively.

During the remaining two days of the conference, the focus will remain on creating a comprehensive roadmap to combat issues such as narcotics trafficking, cybercrime, and economic offences.

Additionally, the conference will facilitate discussions on welfare-related concerns and infrastructural requirements for India’s police forces.
