Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Phase I of the Noida International Airport, marking a significant expansion of India’s aviation infrastructure, with a strong focus on connectivity, capacity and future growth in air travel in the region.
Addressing the gathering at Jewar, the Prime Minister described the airport as a symbol of India’s “new spirit” and emphasised its role in transforming northern India into a major aviation hub. He highlighted that the facility would serve as a key gateway for cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Mathura and Meerut, while also easing congestion at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
A flight every two minutes
The Prime Minister spotlighted the scale and ambition of the project, stating that once fully operational, the airport would be capable of handling a flight every two minutes. This, he noted, reflects the rapid expansion of India’s aviation sector and the growing demand for air travel across the country.
Developed at an estimated cost of ₹11,200 crore under a public-private partnership model, Phase I of the airport has already received its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation earlier this month. According to officials, domestic and cargo flight operations are expected to begin within the next 45 days, while international services are likely to commence later this year.
The PM stressed that the airport would significantly enhance regional connectivity by integrating road, rail and air transport networks, thereby creating a seamless travel experience. He added that the project would not only improve passenger movement but also strengthen logistics and cargo operations, benefiting trade and industry.
Opportunities for businesses, farmers and young people
Highlighting the broader economic impact, PM Modi said the airport would generate new opportunities for businesses, farmers and young people in western Uttar Pradesh. He pointed out that improved connectivity would boost tourism, facilitate faster movement of goods and attract investment to the region.
The Prime Minister also noted that the airport’s design incorporates modern and eco-friendly features, aligning with India’s push towards sustainable infrastructure development.
With its strategic location and large-scale capacity, the Noida International Airport is expected to emerge as a key aviation hub in the Delhi-NCR region, supporting India’s long-term vision of becoming a global leader in air connectivity and transport infrastructure.
