Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for a series of development projects in Banswara, Rajasthan, on Thursday with a combined value exceeding Rs 1,22,100 crore. These initiatives span critical sectors including energy, water, infrastructure, health, and urban development, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing Rajasthan’s growth and self-reliance.

A major highlight of the visit was the inauguration of clean energy and transmission projects valued at over Rs 91,770 crore. The centerpiece of these efforts is the Rs 42,000 crore Mahi-Banswara nuclear plant, which, with a planned capacity of 2,800 MW, is the largest among the newly announced projects.

The nuclear plant, developed under Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd (ASHVINI), is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing Rajasthan’s journey toward energy independence. According to an official release, the project will deliver cost efficiencies, faster deployment, and consolidated operational expertise.

The Mahi-Banswara nuclear plant will consist of four indigenous 700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors, equipped with advanced safety features and designed by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). This project is part of India’s “fleet mode” initiative, which involves the construction of ten identical 700 MW reactors across the country under a standardised design and procurement framework.

Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for green energy projects worth approximately Rs 19,210 crore, including solar projects in Phalodi, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Bikaner, and Sikar. Another significant initiative is a solar park planned for Ramagiri, Andhra Pradesh.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated three power transmission projects worth over Rs 13,180 crore under the Central Government’s Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) initiative, which aims to develop 181.5 GW of renewable energy capacity across eight states by 2030.

PM KUSUM and Other Energy Initiatives

During the visit, PM Modi launched the PM KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) projects for Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka, with a combined investment of over Rs 16,050 crore. These projects aim to promote solar energy adoption among farmers, enhancing sustainable agricultural practices and energy security.

Railway Connectivity Boost

To strengthen Rajasthan’s rail infrastructure, PM Modi flagged off three new trains during the event: the Vande Bharat Express Train between Bikaner and Delhi Cantt, the Vande Bharat Express Train between Jodhpur and Delhi Cantt, and the Udaipur City – Chandigarh Express. These trains are expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost economic activity in the region.

Job Creation and Other Development Projects

In a significant move to empower the youth, PM Modi distributed more than 15,000 appointment letters to newly appointed individuals in various state government bodies and departments. This initiative underscores the government’s focus on employment generation and skill development.

The projects inaugurated and launched during the visit reflect a holistic approach to development, addressing energy independence, sustainable practices, infrastructure growth, and job creation. By investing in clean energy, modernising railway connectivity, and expanding employment opportunities, the initiatives aim to position Rajasthan as a key driver of India’s economic and sustainable development goals.
