Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to embark on a five-nation tour next week, with the primary objective of attending the BRICS summit in Brazil and strengthening India’s bilateral ties with four other countries. The main goals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's anticipated five-nation tour next week are to attend the BRICS summit in Brazil and deepen India's bilateral relations with four other nations.

Sources with knowledge of the situation claim that Modi's itinerary includes stops in Argentina, Namibia, Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, and Ghana. Although the government has not formally announced the tour, the high-profile diplomatic engagements are being prepared for.

Modi's attendance at the BRICS summit, which is set for July 6 and 7 in Rio de Janeiro, will be the main event of the trip. Leaders from 11 significant emerging economies, which collectively account for nearly 49.5 percent of the world's population, roughly 40 per cent of its GDP, and roughly 26 per cent of its trade, will meet at the summit. In 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates joined the original BRICS group, which was made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In this year, Indonesia became a member, making the bloc an important forum for the Global South.

India is anticipated to advocate for mainstreaming the concerns and ambitions of developing countries and to call for coordinated efforts to fight terrorism during the summit. The theme of the gathering, which Brazil is chairing, is "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance." Two significant declarations, one on funding climate change initiatives and the other on artificial intelligence governance, are also anticipated to be made at the end of the summit.

Along with attending the BRICS summit, Prime Minister Modi will speak with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva one-on-one. A wide range of topics, including trade, climate change, and multilateral cooperation, are anticipated to be covered in these talks. India has decided to proceed with Modi's visit, indicating its continued commitment to the BRICS framework, even though reports indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping may skip the summit.

As part of India's diplomatic outreach to countries in the Global South, the tour also includes stops in Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Namibia. Particularly in light of South-South cooperation and global governance reform, the visits seek to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand India's presence and partnerships throughout various regions.
