Former External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh, who had a distinguished career in diplomacy and politics, passed away on Saturday night at the age of 93. He died at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, following a prolonged illness. His last rites will be performed at Lodhi Road Crematorium on August 12.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, acknowledging Singh's significant contributions to diplomacy and foreign policy. Modi took to social media to share his thoughts, stating, "Pained by the passing away of Shri Natwar Singh Ji. He made rich contributions to the world of diplomacy and foreign policy. He was also known for his intellect as well as his prolific writing. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti."

 

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala also confirmed Singh’s demise, expressing his sadness and extending his condolences to Singh's family.

 

"The news of the demise of former Foreign Minister Natwar Singh ji is sad," Surjewala said. "May God give strength to his family to bear this loss and grant peace to the departed soul."

 

Singh served as the External Affairs Minister from 2004 to 2005 in the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during the UPA government. His tenure as External Affairs Minister was marked by his deep understanding of international relations and his efforts to enhance India's global standing. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1984 for his contributions to public service.

 

Natwar Singh's career in diplomacy spanned several decades, and he held various important positions in the Indian government, including serving as an ambassador to several countries. His legacy in Indian foreign policy is remembered for his diplomatic acumen and his ability to navigate complex international challenges.

 

Singh was not only a diplomat but also a prolific writer.
