Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday immersed himself in devotion at the revered Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, as part of the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025 in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.

Wearing a vibrant saffron jacket paired with blue trackpants, the Prime Minister performed a ritual puja before taking a ceremonial holy dip in the waters.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accompanied Modi on a boat tour of the Yamuna River.

The Mahakumbh, the world’s largest spiritual and cultural congregation, commenced on Paush Purnima on January 13, 2025, and will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26.

The grand event has drawn millions of pilgrims and devotees from across the globe, seeking divine blessings and spiritual fulfilment.

Consistent with his endeavours to safeguard and promote India’s cultural and spiritual heritage, Prime Minister Modi has taken decisive measures to improve infrastructure and amenities at pilgrimage sites.

During a previous visit to Prayagraj on December 13, 2024, he inaugurated 167 development projects worth Rs 5,500 crore, aiming to enhance connectivity and public services.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also participated in the Mahakumbh festivities on Wednesday, taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam.

Sharing his experience on social media platform X, Rijiju cautioned against politicising the religious event.

He wrote, “Maha Kumbh comes once in 144 years i.e. once in many generations. No one should do politics on such a historic religious moment. I am fortunate that I took a dip in the holy Triveni Sangam. Please everyone follow the guidelines as the total number of people coming to Maha Kumbh is unprecedented and unimaginable. #Mahakumbh”

By 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh government recorded over 3.748 million devotees taking a holy dip at the confluence, adding to the vibrant spiritual fervour surrounding the event.

Among the bathers were over 10 lakh Kalpvasis, who spend the entire month living on the riverbanks, and approximately 2.748 million pilgrims who arrived early to partake in the spiritual rites.

State government data further revealed that the cumulative number of bathers since the Mahakumbh’s commencement had surpassed 382 million as of February 4, underlining the unparalleled spiritual and cultural significance of the event.

With a strong emphasis on crowd management and safety, the state authorities have implemented comprehensive guidelines to accommodate the vast influx of pilgrims.

Officials urged attendees to adhere to safety protocols to ensure a smooth and enriching experience.
