Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute on Saturday to those who lost their lives in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

"On behalf of families nationwide, I offer my deepest respects to all the brave martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre," PM Modi wrote on X.

In a short video story, the Prime Minister recounted the inhuman act perpetrated on peaceful protestors.

He lamented the atrocities inflicted on innocent children and women, describing Jallianwala Bagh as a source of inspiration for late freedom fighters Sardar Udham Singh, Sardar Bhagat Singh, and many others.

PM Modi said that the walls of Jallianwala Bagh bear witness to the dreams of many who perished on that tragic day.

The massacre, which occurred on this day in 1919, marked a pivotal moment in India's nationalist movement.

The Jallianwala Bagh grounds, with their stone monument, porticos, and pathways, serve as a solemn reminder of India's painful past and have become a destination for tourists worldwide.

The government has recently restored the site, opening museum galleries and initiating a daily sound and light show to recount the events of 13 April 1919.

Additionally, murals and sculptures have been added to the walls of the narrow lane through which British soldiers, led by Brigadier General RH Dyer, entered the park and killed thousands and injuring more, according to historians, serving as a commemoration to those who lost their lives.
