Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a three-nation tour beginning Sunday, marking his first foreign trip since the launch of Operation Sindoor.

The visit will include stops in Cyprus, Croatia, and Canada, where he is scheduled to participate in the G7 Summit.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Saturday that Prime Minister Modi will first visit Cyprus from 15 to 16 June, before heading to Kananaskis, Canada, on 16–17 June for the G7 Summit, and concluding his trip in Croatia on 18 June.

The Canada visit is particularly significant as it will be Modi’s first since diplomatic ties between New Delhi and Ottawa soured over the Khalistani issue. It also marks his return to the international stage following India’s military operation against Pakistan, dubbed Operation Sindoor.

Modi is attending the G7 Summit at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who extended the invite during a phone call last week.

This development follows earlier reports that had suggested the Indian Prime Minister might skip the summit, which would have been his first absence from the high-level gathering in six years.

During the summit, Modi is expected to present India’s perspective on pressing global issues such as energy security, technological innovation, and inclusive development.

Describing India and Canada as “vibrant democracies”, the external affairs ministry expressed hope that the bilateral meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the G7 would offer a chance to exchange views and explore pathways to reset strained diplomatic relations.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a media briefing that the forthcoming meeting is viewed as an important opportunity to move the relationship forward in a constructive direction.
