Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a busy day in South India today, commencing with a public rally in Karnataka's Shivamogga, followed by a roadshow in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, as part of the NDA's Lok Sabha election campaign in the region.

Scheduled for March 18, PM Modi's itinerary underlines the strategic importance of the Southern states in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

His engagement in Karnataka's Shivamogga district, the stronghold of BJP leader Yediyurappa, is aimed at bolstering support for BJP candidates in the imminent elections, slated to unfold in seven phases starting April 19.

The public rally in Shivamogga anticipates a massive turnout of approximately 2.5 lakh people at the Allama Prabhu ground (Freedom Park).

Yediyurappa's son and BJP candidate, BY Raghavendra, will contest from the Shimoga constituency, with the BJP eyeing to replicate its 2019 performance, where it clinched 25 out of 28 seats in Karnataka. The party remains optimistic, aiming for a clean sweep this election cycle.

Meanwhile, PM Modi's forthcoming roadshow in Coimbatore encountered legal hurdles, with the Madras High Court initially denying permission due to security concerns, citing the proposed route's sensitivity.

However, BJP district president J Ramesh Kumar contested this decision, leading to the court ultimately granting permission for the event and mandating adequate police protection.

The BJP state unit, on the other hand, hailed the court's ruling, welcoming it as a green light for what they anticipate to be a "historic" roadshow on Monday.
