In a bid to address the spiralling crisis in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Monday morning, expressing India’s deep concern over the latest military escalations.

 

During the telephone call, the Prime Minister underscored that the protection of civilians must be the absolute priority as the conflict intensifies. Sharing details of the conversation on X, Modi wrote: "Had a telephone call with PM Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the current regional situation. Conveyed India's concerns over recent developments and emphasised the safety of civilians as a priority. India reiterates the need for an early cessation of hostilities."

 

Diplomatic actions are taking place after a weekend with record breaking amounts of violence, as a coordinated operation between America and Israel resulted in an Iran attack and subsequent the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei; The Region has been on high alert for additional strikes from Iran in retaliation towards Israel and several other country in the Gulf by missiles and drone strikes from Iran.

 

The Prime Minister’s conversation with Netanyahu follows a similar high-level call on Sunday night with the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During that discussion, Modi "strongly condemned" the Iranian attacks on the Emirates, expressing India’s firm solidarity with the UAE.

 

With nearly ten million Indian nationals living and working across the Gulf, New Delhi is treading a careful diplomatic line, calling for an immediate de-escalation while simultaneously coordinating with regional leaders to ensure the safety of the vast Indian expatriate community.
