PM Modi-TMC faceoff intensifies ahead of Bengal rally.

Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a public rally in Alipurduar, North Bengal, on Thursday, political tensions in the state have flared up with a sharp exchange of accusations between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The war of words erupted after the Prime Minister posted on X, accusing the TMC government of corruption and claiming that the people of Bengal are fed up with its governance. He also asserted that development projects by the NDA government have been widely appreciated across the state.

In a prompt counter reply, the TMC branded the Prime Minister a “migratory bird” visiting Bengal only before elections.

In his post, Modi said, “I will be addressing a BJP public meeting in Alipurduar tomorrow afternoon. Over the last decade, the various schemes of the NDA Government have been greatly appreciated by the people of West Bengal. At the same time, they are tired of the corruption and poor administration of the TMC.”

The statement sparked an immediate reaction from the TMC. Hitting back, the party accused Modi of visiting Bengal only during elections.

In a biting response on X, the TMC posted, “Since the migratory birds are making their seasonal visit to Bengal, why not answer one simple question: Why is the Centre still withholding Bengal’s rightful dues amounting to ₹1.7 lakh crore?”

Assembly elections in Bengal will be held in 2026.

With Modi’s visit scheduled for Thursday, political activity in the saffron camp across North Bengal has intensified. The BJP hopes to bolster its support in the region, considered crucial in upcoming electoral battles.

Modi’s social media post, directly attacking the Mamata Banerjee-led government even before landing in Bengal, signals a high-decibel campaign.

It is expected that the Alipurduar rally will see a further escalation in rhetoric, especially on the issues of alleged corruption and Centre–state fund disputes.

As tweets and counter-tweets fly, Bengal braces for yet another showdown between the BJP and TMC, setting the stage for a politically charged day ahead.
