Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a five‑nation tour beginning 2 July, visiting Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Friday.
In the first leg, PM Modi will visit Ghana from 2–3 July in his first-ever bilateral trip to the country, marking the first such visit by an Indian Prime Minister in three decades.
He is scheduled to meet Ghana’s president to review and explore enhanced cooperation in the economic, energy, defence and development sectors.
“This visit will reaffirm the shared commitment of the two countries to deepen bilateral ties and strengthen India’s engagement with ECOWAS and the African Union,” the MEA said.
The second leg takes PM Modi to Trinidad and Tobago from 3–4 July, at the invitation of Prime Minister Kamla Persad‑Bissessar. This marks his maiden visit to the Caribbean nation as prime minister and the first bilateral visit at the prime‑ministerial level since 1999.
He will hold talks with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Persad‑Bissessar, and is expected to address a joint session of Trinidad and Tobago’s Parliament. The MEA noted the visit will energise the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
Last November, at the 2nd India‑CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, PM Modi pledged India’s support for the Global South and reaffirmed its commitment to Caribbean nations.
On the sidelines, he met then‑PM Keith Rowley to congratulate the country for adopting India’s UPI digital payment platform and pledged further collaboration in digital transformation.
India–Trinidad and Tobago share people-to-people links dating to 1845, when the first ship, Fatel Razack, carrying 225 indentured workers, arrived on the island.
From 4–5 July, PM Modi will visit Argentina at the invitation of President Javier Milei.
Bilateral talks will cover defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade and people-to-people exchanges. Relations were elevated to a Strategic Partnership during Argentine President Mauricio Macri’s 2019 visit to New Delhi.
PM Modi and Prez Milei met for the first time at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024 and noted India's emergence among Argentina’s top five trading partners.
Next, PM Modi will travel to Brazil from 5–8 July to attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on 6–7 July, and thereafter embark on a State Visit to Brasilia. This is his fourth visit to Brazil.
At the summit, he will join discussions on global governance reform, peace and security, multilateralism, responsible AI use, climate action, global health, and economic and financial issues.
Bilateral talks with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasilia will focus on expanding their strategic partnership in trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health and people-to-people links.
In the last summit in Kazan in October 2024, Mr Modi noted the need for BRICS to be responsive amid global uncertainties, such as conflict, climate, and cyber threats.
The final leg sees PM Modi in Namibia on 9 July, at the invitation of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
This is his first visit as Prime Minister and the third Prime Ministerial visit from India.
He will meet President Nandi‑Ndaitwah, pay homage to Namibia’s founding father and first president, Dr Sam Nujoma, and address the Namibian Parliament. The MEA said the visit reaffirms India’s long-standing historical and multifaceted friendship with Namibia.
PM Modi’s tour underscores India’s commitment to acting as a “Vishwa Bandhu” (world friend) and amplifying the voice of the Global South.
