PM Modi's I-Day address to highlight Op Sindoor and defence self-reliance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver his 11th consecutive Independence Day address from the Red Fort on Friday, marking the 79th year of India’s freedom.

Preparations are in full swing to make the occasion historic, with this year’s speech set to honour the bravery and sacrifices of the Indian armed forces, particularly during Operation Sindoor.

According to sources, the Prime Minister’s address will focus on India’s global vision, international partnerships and the crucial role of the armed forces in safeguarding the nation.

PM Modi is expected to highlight the courage displayed during Operation Sindoor, a recent cross-border counter-terror mission in Pakistan that struck a significant blow to terrorist infrastructure.

On May 7, India conducted precision strikes under Operation Sindoor to dismantle Pakistan-based terror facilities in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, in which 26 civilians were killed by terrorists operating from across the border.

Sources also indicated that Modi may announce central support for restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The proposal, recommended by the Union Territory’s Governor, would be followed by legislative and administrative measures to reinstate the region’s status.

As in previous years, the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech is expected to set the national agenda. Four themes are likely to feature prominently: recognition of the armed forces’ service, initiatives to boost indigenous defence production under the Make in India programme, new policies for women’s welfare and farmers’ support, and an economic roadmap aimed at positioning India as the world’s third-largest economy.

Social welfare schemes are anticipated to receive fresh funding, while defence announcements may include measures to cut reliance on imports and strengthen the domestic manufacturing base. The address is also expected to underline India’s growing role in global affairs and its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Operation Sindoor celebration

This year’s Independence Day celebrations will also mark 100 days since Operation Sindoor. The Red Fort will feature decorations themed around the operation as a tribute to the armed forces’ achievement.

Large Operation Sindoor logos will be painted on the monument’s walls, and invitation cards will carry the emblem alongside an image of the Chenab Railway Bridge — hailed as a symbol of engineering excellence and national pride.

During the flag-hoisting ceremony, Indian Air Force helicopters will fly over the Red Fort bearing the Operation Sindoor emblem, while the 21-gun salute will be fired using indigenous 105mm artillery guns.

Across the country, military bands will perform in 100 cities to commemorate the operation’s centenary day, bringing the celebrations to the public.

The Independence Day programme will serve both as a celebration of the nation’s freedom and a tribute to the armed forces’ courage, reaffirming their central role in defending India’s sovereignty and shaping its future.
