Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Mumbai's International Cruise Terminal at Ballard Pier today, marking a significant boost for India's maritime infrastructure.
The new facility is projected to handle one million passengers annually, positioning Mumbai as a premier global cruise tourism hub.
India’s Largest Cruise Terminal Opens
Developed under the 'Cruise Bharat Mission,' the state-of-the-art Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) is the largest such facility in the country.
The terminal spans more than 415,000 square feet and has the capacity to accommodate five cruise ships at once, with a design aimed at providing a seamless and efficient experience for travellers.

MICT features 72 check-in and immigration counters, ensuring quick processing for both domestic and international passengers attending the terminal.
Significance of the Terminal
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, emphasised the importance of the terminal: "The maritime history of Mumbai is rich and an integral part of our civilisation. As a coastal hub, it has served the nation handsomely with its bustling coastal business."
Sonowal also noted that the terminal's development aligns with Prime Minister Modi's vision of transforming India into a global cruise hub via state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Additional Initiatives Inaugurated
In addition to the terminal, several further initiatives were inaugurated. These include the renovated Fire Memorial at Victoria Docks, heritage lighting at Port House and Evelyn House, and the Sagar Upvan garden.
The projects are designed to promote cultural tourism and environmental sustainability in the region.
Boost for Cruise Tourism
The launch of the MICT is seen as a major step in bolstering India's cruise tourism sector by attracting both domestic and international tourists, and contributing to the nation's economic growth.
