Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit in France on February 10-11, 2025, marking a significant diplomatic visit.

The announcement was made by French President Emmanuel Macron during his address at the 30th Conference of Ambassadors.

Macron revealed that the summit, which will be hosted in Paris, is intended to facilitate an international dialogue on AI, bringing together key players from around the world.

"The AI Summit on February 10-11 will allow for an international conversation on AI," Macron said, emphasising the importance of the summit in shaping the future of AI technology globally.

Notably, Prime Minister Modi’s participation signifies India’s growing involvement in the development and regulation of artificial intelligence, a sector that is seen as vital for future economic growth and technological advancements.

The summit will bring together world leaders, with countries such as the US, China, India, and several Gulf nations expected to play key roles in shaping discussions.

Macron pointed out that these nations, along with Europe, hold significant responsibility in advancing AI technologies and ensuring their responsible use.

"The US, China, and major emerging countries such as India have a key role to play, as well as the Gulf," said Macron, stressing the global scope of the conversation.

The French President also underlined that the summit will focus on fostering innovation, attracting talent, and positioning France and Europe as central figures in the global AI landscape.

This aligns with France’s ambition to lead the AI conversation, ensuring that the continent remains at the forefront of technological progress. "What we want to do is focus on innovation and the ability to attract talent," Macron explained. "We want France and Europe at the heart of the AI battle."

India's invitation to the summit highlights the country’s growing influence in the field of AI. The French Presidency has expressed that India is a "very important country," particularly given its potential to make a tangible impact on people’s lives through AI advancements.

The French government has confirmed that 90 countries, including India, have been invited to attend the summit. Additionally, the event will see discussions on the global challenges posed by misinformation and the misuse of AI, which are expected to be key topics of conversation during the gathering.

The summit will be held at the iconic Grand Palais in Paris and will bring together an impressive array of participants, including Heads of State, government leaders, CEOs from both large corporations and smaller enterprises, representatives from academia, NGOs, civil society, and artists.

These diverse groups will engage in discussions centred around five major themes: public interest in AI, the future of work, innovation and culture, trust in AI, and global governance of AI.

One of the central themes of the summit will be the global governance of AI, an area that has gained significant attention in recent years as AI technologies evolve at a rapid pace.

The summit aims to establish guidelines and frameworks for ensuring that AI is developed and deployed in a manner that serves the common good, avoiding the risks associated with misuse or unethical practices.

The summit will also focus on issues related to AI and public trust. As AI technologies become more integrated into daily life, ensuring that they are used ethically and transparently will be crucial in maintaining public confidence.

Discussions will also address the impact of AI on the workforce, with various sessions dedicated to exploring how automation and AI will shape employment patterns and the future of work.

On February 10, stakeholders will participate in various sessions, with key discussions involving heads of state and other leaders. That evening, President Macron will host a formal dinner for the dignitaries.

The summit will conclude on February 11 with a dedicated leaders' session exclusively for heads of state, where further discussions on AI governance and international collaboration will take place.

In addition to the core discussions, the summit will also serve as a platform for fostering greater international cooperation on AI development and regulation.

By bringing together leaders from diverse sectors, the event aims to create a unified vision for the future of artificial intelligence, ensuring that its benefits are maximised while mitigating potential risks.
