Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate, lay the foundation stone, and dedicate various significant projects worth over Rs 11,200 crore in Maharashtra on Sunday through video conferencing. This initiative aims to enhance infrastructure and boost economic development across the state.
One of the major highlights is the inauguration of the Pune Metro section connecting the District Court to Swargate, marking the completion of the Pune Metro Rail Project's first phase.
The cost of the underground section from District Court to Swargate is estimated at Rs 1,810 crore. The inauguration will bring a new dimension to urban transportation in Pune, offering a more efficient and environmentally friendly transit option.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj Extension of Pune Metro Phase-1, which will be developed at a cost of approximately Rs 2,955 crore.
This extension will add about 5.46 km of underground rail, with three new stations at Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. The project is expected to significantly enhance the metro network and ease congestion in Pune, providing improved connectivity for the southern parts of the city.
Another transformative project that PM Modi will dedicate to the nation is the Bidkin Industrial Area, located around 20 kilometres south of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar in Maharashtra.
Spread across 7,855 acres, this project is part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Program under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. The development of this area, with an estimated cost of over Rs 6,400 crore, is being carried out in three phases and aims to create a vibrant economic hub in the Marathwada region.
It is expected to attract businesses and boost industrial growth, contributing to Maharashtra's economic progress. Further improving connectivity in Maharashtra, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Solapur Airport.
The upgraded airport will make the region more accessible to tourists, business travellers, and investors. The revamped terminal is expected to handle approximately 4.1 lakh passengers annually, thereby enhancing air travel convenience for the people of Solapur and surrounding areas.
In addition to these infrastructural initiatives, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for a memorial dedicated to Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule's First Girls' School at Bhide Wada.
This school, founded by Savitribai Phule, is of historical importance as it symbolises the beginning of women's education in India. The memorial aims to honor the legacy of Savitribai Phule, a pioneer of women's empowerment and education, and inspire future generations.
These projects collectively represent significant steps toward modernising Maharashtra's infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and supporting industrial growth.
The Pune Metro expansion will cater to the growing transportation needs of the city, while the development of the Bidkin Industrial Area is expected to attract investments and boost economic activity in the region. The new Solapur Airport will facilitate better air connectivity, promoting tourism and business opportunities.
Furthermore, the memorial for Savitribai Phule’s First Girls' School is a tribute to the remarkable contributions of one of India's foremost social reformers. The combined investment of over Rs 11,200 crore in these projects is a significant step toward the development of Maharashtra, enhancing urban infrastructure, supporting industrial growth, and improving the quality of life for residents. The completion of the Pune Metro Rail Project (Phase-1) will bring a much-needed boost to urban mobility in Pune, reducing travel times and making daily commutes more convenient.
