PM Modi to visit Bhutan on March 21, hold bilateral talks as part of 'Neighbourhood First Policy'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to embark on a State visit to Bhutan from March 21 to March 22, 2024. This visit closely follows the recent visit of Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to New Delhi from March 14 to March 18.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to embark on a State visit to Bhutan from March 21 to March 22, 2024. This visit closely follows the recent visit of Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to New Delhi from March 14 to March 18.

 

The Ministry of External Affairs released a statement affirming that this visit aligns with the longstanding tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan, underscoring the Government’s commitment to its Neighbourhood First Policy.

 

"Our shared spiritual heritage and warm people-to-people ties add depth and vibrancy to our exceptional relations. The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on bilateral and regional matters of interest and deliberate on ways to expand and intensify our exemplary partnership for the benefit of our peoples," added the statement.

 

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will have an audience with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, and His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan. Additionally, discussions will be held with Prime Minister Tobgay.

 

The statement emphasised the unique and enduring partnership shared between India and Bhutan, characterised by mutual trust, understanding, and goodwill. It highlighted the shared spiritual heritage and robust people-to-people ties that enrich this exceptional relationship. 

 

The visit is anticipated to facilitate exchanges on bilateral and regional matters of mutual interest, aiming to strengthen and diversify the exemplary partnership for the betterment of both nations.

 

Bhutan's Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, embarked on his first overseas visit after assuming office in February 2024, travelling to India from March 14 to 18.
