Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Moscow for the 9 May Victory Day Parade, marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. Reports suggest a high probability of his attendance, alongside discussions about an Indian military contingent’s participation. The visit coincides with crucial US-Russia peace talks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to travel to Russia to attend the grand parade in Moscow's Red Square on 9 May, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Russian news agency TASS has reported citing a military source, TASS stated, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning a visit to the May 9 parade in Moscow. It is highly likely that it will take place."

The report further noted that discussions are underway regarding the participation of an Indian armed forces contingent in the parade.

"The issue of participation in the parade on Red Square of a ceremonial unit of the Indian armed forces, which should arrive at least a month [before the parade] for rehearsals, is also being worked out," the source added.

Discussions are currently ongoing regarding the logistics of transporting Indian military personnel to Moscow for the event.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recently confirmed that a good number of invited nations have already affirmed their attendance at the May 9 celebrations.

Additionally, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that invitations have been extended to foreign leaders from across the globe, not just within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

He emphasised that Russia welcomes all guests who acknowledge the significance of Victory Day.

Prime Minister Modi's prospective visit follows his last trip to Russia in October, when he attended the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.

The upcoming visit is of particular interest as it coincides with ongoing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Russia aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine. The initial round of these talks took place earlier this month in Riyadh.

During his previous interactions with President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Modi strongly advocated for peace and dialogue to resolve the ongoing conflict.
