Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the nation on the occasion of National Science Day on Friday, emphasizing the role of science and innovation in achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi encouraged young innovators and science enthusiasts to actively contribute to the country’s progress.
“Greetings on National Science Day to those passionate about science, particularly our young innovators. Let’s keep popularising science and innovation and leveraging science to build a Viksit Bharat,” he wrote.
‘One Day as a Scientist’ initiative
The Prime Minister also referred to his recent Mann Ki Baat address, where he had proposed the idea of observing "one day as a scientist." This initiative aims to inspire young minds to engage in scientific activities, fostering a culture of curiosity, research, and discovery.
Significance of National Science Day
National Science Day is celebrated annually in India on Friday to honour the remarkable scientific contribution of physicist Sir C.V. Raman, who discovered the Raman Effect on this day in 1928. His groundbreaking research on the scattering of light earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Indian scientist to receive this prestigious honour.
The day serves as a tribute to India’s scientific advancements and aims to promote awareness about the importance of science and technology in national development. Various educational institutions, research organizations, and scientific bodies across the country observe the day with seminars, exhibitions, and interactive sessions to inspire young scientists.
PM Modi’s message underscores the government’s commitment to scientific progress and innovation, aligning with India's broader goal of becoming a global leader in research, technology, and sustainable development.
