India and Bhutan reaffirm commitment to strong ties.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed Their Majesties, the King and Queen of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, during their visit to New Delhi.

 

The meeting underscored the close ties between the two nations, reflecting a deep-rooted partnership based on mutual trust, cooperation, and shared aspirations.

 

The Prime Minister extended his greetings and fondly recalled the exceptional hospitality extended to him during his state visit to Bhutan in March 2024.

 

This exchange of visits highlights the tradition of regular high-level engagements between the two countries, showcasing their enduring commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

 

 

The discussions were marked by satisfaction over the robust state of relations, covering diverse areas such as development cooperation, clean energy, trade, investment, and people-to-people connections.

 

Both leaders reaffirmed their resolve to further enhance collaboration across these sectors, emphasising the exemplary partnership that defines India-Bhutan relations.

 

A significant focus of the meeting was on advancing economic connectivity between the two nations. The leaders exchanged ideas on Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City initiative, a visionary project led by His Majesty the King.

 

This initiative aims to catalyse Bhutan's development while fostering stronger linkages with adjoining regions in India, underlining the shared vision for regional progress.

 

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to Bhutan's economic development, highlighting the doubling of India’s development support for Bhutan’s 13th Five Year Plan.

 

This gesture demonstrates India’s enduring partnership in Bhutan’s journey towards happiness, progress, and prosperity. His Majesty the King expressed heartfelt gratitude to India for its consistent support of Bhutan’s developmental aspirations.

 

The interaction also celebrated the collaboration in various fields, including space and technology. The leaders acknowledged the shared achievements in these areas, which further strengthen the ties between the two nations.
