Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to Shri Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, on the occasion of his Parkash Utsav.
Remembering the Sikh Guru’s supreme sacrifice for the sake of his faith and to uphold justice against the atrocities of the Mughals, PM Modi said in a post on X that Guru Gobind Singh continues to inspire generations to stand for truth and righteousness, while also guiding people towards service and selfless duty.
“On the sacred Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, we bow in reverence to him. He remains an embodiment of courage, compassion and sacrifice. His life and teachings inspire us to stand for truth, justice, righteousness and to protect human dignity,” PM Modi wrote.
The Prime Minister also shared glimpses from his visit earlier this year to Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib, one of the five Takhts of Sikhism and the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh.
“Here are pictures from my visit to the Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib earlier this year, where I also had darshan of the Holy Jore Sahib of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji,” the Prime Minister added.
The Prakash Purav, which marks the birthday of the tenth Guru, is celebrated with enthusiasm each year, with the government planning nation-wide programmes to honour Guru Gobind Singh.

In the Sikh faith, Gurudwaras are illuminated with glittering lights to signify Prakash (light), followed by Anand Path and Prabhat Feri, which comes into practice a few days before the main festival.
Earlier, on December 26, Veer Baal Diwas was observed across the country to commemorate the sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the younger sons of Guru Govind Singh, who gave up their lives at the tender ages of nine and six years respectively, to defend their right to practice their faith.
On January 9, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that December 26 would be observed as ‘Veer Baal Diwas’ to commemorate the martyrdom of the sons of Shri Guru Gobind Singh.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, also paid tribute to Shri Guru Gobind Singh on Saturday, describing the tenth Sikh Guru as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion.
In a post on social media platform X, the chief minister said that Shri Guru Gobind Singh, the founder of the Khalsa Panth, continues to inspire generations with his life and teachings. “The saga of valour of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji teaches us that the true meaning of religion lies in having the strength to fearlessly stand against injustice,” Dhami said in his message.
He noted that the Guru’s life story stands as a beacon of courage, truth, and dedication for humanity.
