PM to begin Sikkim, UP visit from Monday; infra push on agenda

PM Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh from April 27–29, attend statehood celebrations, address a women’s meet in Varanasi and launch infrastructure projects worth over Rs 10,000 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh from April 27 to 29, during which he will attend Sikkim’s 50th statehood celebrations, address a women’s conference in Varanasi, and launch infrastructure projects worth thousands of crores.

 

Modi will arrive in Gangtok on April 27 and participate in the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s golden jubilee statehood celebrations at Paljor Stadium the following morning. During his visit, he will inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore across sectors including connectivity, healthcare, education, tourism and urban development.

 

Key healthcare initiatives include the foundation stone for a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital at Yangang in Namchi district and the inauguration of a 30-bed Sowa Rigpa hospital at NIT Deorali. In education, he will inaugurate the permanent campus of Sikkim University, alongside facilities at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University of Excellence, Helen Lepcha Medical College and Dentam Professional College.

 

The Prime Minister will also launch IT-enabled infrastructure across 160 schools and lay the foundation for two steel arch bridges over the Teesta river to improve connectivity between districts.

Officials said the visit marks a significant milestone in Sikkim’s 50 years of statehood and underlines the Centre’s focus on development in the Northeast.

 

On April 28, Modi will travel to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, where he will address a Mahila Sammelan and unveil projects worth around Rs 6,350 crore. These include road, rail and urban infrastructure works aimed at boosting connectivity and civic amenities.

 

On April 29, he will offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple before heading to Hardoi to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway, a key infrastructure project expected to enhance regional connectivity.

 

The Prime Minister will also dedicate completed projects worth over Rs 1,050 crore and lay the foundation stone of 112 projects valued at around Rs 5,300 crore. These include sewerage and water supply schemes under AMRUT 2.0, a 500-bed multi-super-speciality hospital, critical care blocks and tourism infrastructure at key ghats such as Assi and Dashashwamedh.

 

The three-day visit is expected to combine political outreach with infrastructure push, with a focus on development, connectivity and public welfare across both states
