Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a distinctive initiative to mark International Women’s Day, declaring that he will hand over his official social media accounts to inspirational women for a day.

The initiative, unveiled during the 119th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, aims to celebrate women’s achievements and amplify their voices nationwide.

During his address, Modi pointed to the vital contributions of women across diverse fields, affirming that “all forms of knowledge reflect the many facets of feminine strength.”

Citing Hansa Mehta, an eminent figure in the drafting of the Indian Constitution, he reiterated the importance of acknowledging and uplifting women in society.

Women achievers to take over PM’s digital platforms

On 8 March, in observance of Women’s Day, accomplished women from different backgrounds will be given control of the Prime Minister’s official social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

These women, who have demonstrated excellence in their respective domains, will use Modi’s accounts to share their experiences, challenges, and achievements. The initiative is expected to inspire millions across the nation and encourage discourse on gender equality and empowerment.

In an effort to ensure diverse participation, the Prime Minister has invited applications from women achievers across various sectors through a special forum on the NaMo App.

Selected participants will be given an opportunity to share their journeys and innovations with a vast audience via the Prime Minister’s social media accounts.

International Women’s Day and its significance

International Women’s Day, observed annually on 8 March, is a global occasion to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide.

The initiative launched by PM Modi is in line with these objectives, offering a unique platform to highlight the contributions of women in shaping India’s progress.
