Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ on August 2 at 11 a.m. via video conferencing, marking the start of a nationwide campaign to combat substance abuse and encourage youth participation in nation-building.
The initiative aims to inspire young people to stay away from drugs and other addictive substances while motivating them to become ambassadors of positive social change in their communities.The launch will kick off a 100-week Jan Bhagidari campaign against substance abuse. As part of the initiative, awareness and community engagement activities will be organised every Sunday across the country to promote public participation in building a drug-free society.
The weekly programmes will include sports events, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural performances, awareness drives, nukkad nataks (street plays), discussion forums, art competitions and other community outreach activities.
According to the government, the campaign seeks to strengthen grassroots participation by bringing together educational institutions, youth organisations, civil society groups, industry bodies and spiritual organisations on a common platform to create a nationwide movement against substance abuse.
The launch event will witness participation from youth across the country from more than 10,000 locations. Participants will include MY Bharat Volunteers, MY Bharat National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, youth clubs, schools, colleges, universities, non-governmental organisations, youth wings of industry associations and representatives from over 125 partner spiritual organisations, who will join the programme virtually.
It’s objective is also to unite young citizens in a collective mission to build a drug-free society and contribute to the vision of a developed India. It is led by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports through the MY Bharat portal. As for the duration, it is a 100-week Jan Bhagidari (public participation) campaign featuring weekly Sunday community engagement and awareness events. More than one crore youth across roughly 10,000 locations taking a simultaneous pledge to stay away from drugs.As per the government, “nearly 10,000 locations across the country will organise simultaneous pledge ceremonies, with more than one crore youth to participate in the Nasha Mukti Pledge.”
