Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will inaugurate the TATA Aircraft Complex in Vadodara on Monday, marking India’s first private-sector facility for the final assembly of military aircraft.
The new complex, built to manufacture C-295 aircraft, represents a major development in India's defence manufacturing sector, supporting domestic and international aviation needs.
Modi and Sanchez will lead a 2.5 km roadshow from Vadodara airport to the Tata Advanced Systems (TAS) facility on Monday morning, with cultural displays set along the route.
Following the inauguration, the leaders will proceed to Vadodara’s historic Laxmi Vilas Palace for a bilateral meeting organised by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, which will include a lunch meeting.
Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi commented, “The two PMs will hold a joint roadshow along the route from the airport to the Tata Advanced Systems facility, with cultural shows organised en route.”
Enhanced security measures are in place across Vadodara, including around the hotel where Sanchez will stay. Vadodara’s police force has conducted rehearsals along the 10-km stretch from the Tata facility to Laxmi Vilas Palace to ensure smooth proceedings.
The Vadodara complex, designed to produce 40 aircraft, marks a landmark achievement for Tata Advanced Systems, which will manage full development and assembly of the aircraft. Sixteen additional C-295s will be supplied by Airbus, completing the Indian fleet.
The complex also brings a range of public and private partnerships into play. Alongside Tata, companies such as Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics, as well as micro, small, and medium enterprises, will contribute to the programme’s ecosystem and supply chain.
Modi laid the foundation for the assembly line last October, marking the start of this significant step forward for India’s indigenous military manufacturing.
After the events in Vadodara, Modi will travel to Amreli, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the Bharat Mata Sarovar at Dudhala and launch development projects worth over ₹4,800 crore at Lathi.
The Bharat Mata Sarovar project is a collaborative effort between the state government and the Dholakia Foundation, created under the public-private partnership model.
