Jharkhand Police seized around Rs 1.09 Crore from a Kolkata bound bus in Giridih district and arrested three persons in a special vehicle checking drive ahead of the Lok Sabha elections late on Wednesday evening.

 

The long-route bus was going from Gaya in Bihar to Kolkata in West Bengal via Jharkhand.

 

Police sources said that such a huge amount of money was being taken to disrupt elections.

 

Giridih Superintendent of Police Deepak Sharma said that after the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, the police are alert and this action was taken based on secret information.

 

The SP said that now that the MCC has been implemented, an appeal has been made to the people not to travel with excess money.

 

Sharma said that the police are investigating the matter as to where such a huge amount of money came from a passenger travelling in a bus going to Kolkata.

Notably, the Jharkhand police have intercepted several vehicles and seized around Rs 47 lakh in a vehicle checking drive recently in different districts. 

 

While Rs 30.91 lakh was seized from Giridih district, Rs 3 Lakh were seized from a car in Latehar. In Bokaro district Rs 5.50 lakh was seized from a private vehicle in Bokaro district.
