In a development with political tension surrounding a fake video allegedly involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, not a single member of any political party appeared before the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the special cell of the Delhi Police on Thursday, officials revealed.
A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed, "We have asked some of the leaders from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and one person from the Northeast. But no one turned up for questioning on Thursday."
The Delhi Police is now set to serve a second notice to members of the Telangana Congress regarding the uploading and sharing of the fabricated video allegedly featuring Shah.
Four members of the Telangana Congress, who were supposed to present themselves before the IFSO office, failed to appear on Wednesday.
"We will again ask them to appear before the IO (investigating officer), as they did not come on Wednesday," said an officer familiar with the investigation.
Summonses were issued to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and four Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) members—Shiva Kumar Ambala, Asma Tasleem, Satish Manne, and Naveen Pettem—under sections 91 and 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
According to police sources, when served notices under section 160/91 of the CrPC, individuals can either make a physical appearance before the IO or send a legal representative.
On Wednesday, Reddy's lawyer appeared before the IO, asserting that the Congress leader had no involvement in creating or posting the manipulated video of Shah's speech.
In total, approximately 22 individuals from various political parties in states including Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh have been served notices in connection with the case.
They have been requested to appear before the police on
The special cell of the Delhi Police registered an FIR on Sunday following a complaint from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The complaint highlighted the manipulated video of Shah, wherein his remarks allegedly indicating a commitment to abolish quotas for Muslims in Telangana were altered to suggest advocating the scrapping of all reservations.
