In a historic first for Odisha, the winter session of the State Assembly will commence on November 27 with an address by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. This marks the first time a sitting President will address members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to land at Bhubaneswar Airport and proceed directly to the Governor’s House for a brief rest. She is expected to reach the Assembly at 4:20 pm, and the address will begin at 4:30 pm.
Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy confirmed the schedule and stated that the event will be attended by Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, opposition leaders, and all members of the Assembly.
President Murmu had previously served as an MLA for nine years and as a Cabinet Minister in the state government. Her journey from state politics to the highest constitutional office in India serves as a profound source of inspiration for many.
Speaker Padhy expressed immense pride. He said: "For the very first time, President Droupadi Murmu will be addressing the Odisha Assembly. This is a matter of pride. She served as an MLA for nine years and was a Cabinet Minister. Her journey from the Odisha Assembly to the Office of the President is truly an inspiration."
The Speaker detailed the itinerary: "We are all eagerly waiting for November 27. She will arrive at Bhubaneswar Airport and proceed to the Governor’s House. She will inaugurate a guest house and, after a brief rest, will reach the Odisha Assembly at 4:20 pm. She will address the House at 4:30 pm. It has been learnt that Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, opposition leaders, and all members of the Assembly will be present during her address."
This occasion is widely anticipated to be a historic and memorable moment for the state of Odisha.
