President Murmu has arrived in New Zealand as part of her three-nation tour. She was welcomed in Auckland by New Zealand’s Trade Minister Todd McClay and High Commissioner Neeta Bhushan. This visit marks the second leg of her tour, following her stay in Fiji.
The Indian Embassy in New Zealand expressed their warm reception of President Murmu on social media, highlighting the presence of Minister McClay and High Commissioner Bhushan.
Minister McClay also shared his honour at welcoming President Murmu, emphasising the significance of her visit in strengthening the relationship between India and New Zealand.
He mentioned that this visit is part of ongoing government engagements aimed at deepening the ties between the two countries and enhancing their cultural and people-to-people connections.
Before arriving in New Zealand, President Murmu visited the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi, Fiji, where she offered prayers. She also addressed the Indian community in Fiji, praising the strong historical ties between India and Fiji and recognizing the Indian diaspora's role in the island nation as inspirational to the world.
President Murmu's journey began with her departure from New Delhi for a six-day visit to Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor-Leste. Her visit to New Zealand, from August 7-9, is at the invitation of Hon Dame Cindy Kiro, Governor General of New Zealand.
During her state visit, President Murmu is scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with Governor General Kiro, meet with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, address an education conference, and interact with the Indian community and friends of India.
Following her engagements in New Zealand, President Murmu will travel to Timor-Leste on the last leg of her tour at the invitation of President Jose Ramos-Horta. She will hold various engagements in Timor-Leste on August 10, concluding her three-nation tour.
