President Droupadi Murmu hosts breakfast for MPs from seven states and nominated Rajya Sabha members.

President Droupadi Murmu organised a breakfast meeting on Friday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre. She greeted a varied group of MPs from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Ladakh. This event provided a platform to hold a more formal event later in the day. The President met the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

Following the meeting, Sandhu took to social media to express his gratitude, noting that he was honoured to receive the President’s guidance for the "road ahead." His visit comes just 48 hours after he was sworn into office by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. Sandhu, a former diplomat and a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in the 2024 elections, took the reins this Wednesday as part of a sweeping administrative reshuffle. He succeeds VK Saxena, who has moved on to take up the post of Lieutenant Governor in Ladakh.

The President’s week has been largely focused on institutional leadership and gender parity. On Thursday, she inaugurated the Global Conference on the Role of Women in Agri-Food Systems (GCWAS-2026) in the capital. Addressing the delegates, she made a strong case for shifting the role of women in agriculture from mere labour to leadership. According to a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President argued that gender-inclusive growth in the sector can only be achieved if women are given a seat at the table in policy formulation and high-level decision-making.

The hectic schedule at Rashtrapati Bhavan reflects a phase of transition in the administration of the capital city, in the midst of international deliberations on food security and inclusive governance. As Sandhu takes over office at the President’s “encouragement,” the capital’s political circles await to see how this new administration tackles the existing administrative challenges in Delhi.
