President Murmu Mourns Deaths Of Nine Children In MP Collapse.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of nine children due to a wall collapse in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when a wall collapsed on a tent where the children were staying.

President Murmu conveyed her condolences through a post on X, stating, "I am saddened by the news of the death of many innocent children in a heart-wrenching accident in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. I pray that God gives strength to the bereaved parents and family members to bear this pain. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured children."

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the young lives. According to officials, the wall collapsed around 8:30 am, likely due to heavy rain the night before.

Chief Minister Yadav directed the district administration to provide immediate financial assistance to the affected families. The government announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured.

Minister Govind Rajput confirmed that the administration is actively addressing the situation. He emphasised the government's commitment to preventing such incidents in the future. "The administration is actively working. We are all present here. The CM has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the family of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those injured," Rajput said in a statement to media.

Rajput also mentioned that he has instructed the District Collector of Sagar to take necessary preventive measures to avoid such tragedies. "I have asked the District Collector of Sagar to work in this regard to prevent such incidents from happening again. We will be taking preventive measures," he added.

Upon receiving the news, senior officials and district administration authorities rushed to the scene. District Collector Deepak Arya confirmed that local police and rescue teams were promptly on site to start rescue operations. "Nine children have died in the incident. Two others have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment," Arya reported.

This tragic event follows another similar incident in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa, where four students lost their lives after an old wall of a house adjacent to a private school collapsed due to rain. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 3, trapping five students, including a woman, under the rubble.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for structural safety measures, especially in areas prone to heavy rainfall. The state administration is now focusing on implementing preventive strategies to ensure such tragedies do not recur.

The loss of young lives has cast a pall of grief over the community, with both local and national leaders expressing their condolences and pledging support to the bereaved families.
