The investigation into the death of a six-year-old girl in Gujarat's Dahod district has revealed a horrifying fact: the Class I pupil was choked to death, allegedly by her school's principal, after she refused his attempts to sexually abuse her. He then dropped her dead on the school grounds, along with her bag and shoes near the classroom. The culprit, Govind Natt, 55, has been arrested by police.
Senior police officer Rajdeep Singh Jhala said the six-year-old girl's body was discovered on the grounds of her school on Thursday evening, causing fear in the region. The post-mortem confirmed that she had died from suffocation. Police opened a case and organised ten squads to investigate the incident. The girl's mother told the authorities that she attended school with the principal, Govind Natt, every day. When the cops approached him, he explained that he had dropped the girl off at school and gone to work.
The officers weren't convinced. When they checked Govind Natt's phone location records on the day of the incident, they discovered that he arrived late to school. When confronted, the principal admitted to the horrible crime.
"He brought up the girl from her house at 10.20 a.m. Her mother helped her get into the principal's car and drove her away. But she never made it to school. Students and instructors at the school have corroborated this. The principal attempted to sexually abuse her on the way to school, and she began shouting," the senior officer claimed, adding that the principal choked the girl to silence her.
When the principal arrived at the school, he locked his car and left the girl's body inside. "Around 5 p.m., he dumps the body behind the school building and places her schoolbag and shoes outside her classroom.
"He initially denied it, but after the technical analysis, we suspected him," Mr Jhala added.
According to police, Govind Natt is facing serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
State Education Minister Kuber Dindor described it as a horrible incident for society. "This pains me. We followed this up for three days. We had told the police to look into this. The principle has been arrested. I condemn this occurrence, and we will take action to ensure that such acts do not occur again."
