According to reports, India's Ministry of Defence may scrap the proposal to build three additional Scorpene-class submarines at Mazagon Docks (MDL). The deal, which could have cost around Rs 36,000 crore, is currently off the table, said a media report.
It is learnt that no final decision or official announcement regarding the same has been made yet.
The Scorpène-class submarines are diesel-electric attack vessels co-developed by France’s Naval Group and Spain’s Navantia. Designed for stealth missions, intelligence gathering, and anti-ship as well as anti-submarine warfare, they are armed with advanced torpedoes and missiles.
