Former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) probationer, Puja Khedkar has approached the Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a criminal case. Her plea is scheduled to be heard by Justice Subramonium Prasad on Friday.
The case alleges that she cheated and wrongly secured Other Backward Class (OBC) and disability quota benefits.
Khedkar's troubles began when the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) cancelled her candidature and debarred her from future exams on July 31. This followed allegations that she had misrepresented information in her application for the 2022 UPSC Civil Services Examination to obtain reservation benefits.
A sessions court had earlier denied Khedkar's anticipatory bail application on August 1, citing the need for a thorough investigation into the serious allegations against her. The court observed that custodial interrogation was necessary to uncover the conspiracy and potential involvement of other individuals.
The sessions court also directed the Delhi Police to conduct a fair investigation to identify candidates who may have illegally availed of similar benefits and potential insider involvement from the UPSC.
Khedkar has claimed she was falsely implicated and subjected to a media trial, but the sessions court found sufficient incriminating evidence on record to reject her argument.
